Olympic President Applauds
Irish Fighters

Mr. Patrick Hickey, President of The
Olympic Council of Ireland welcomed
over two thousand athletes from thirty
one countries as he officially opened
this years Irish Open Kickboxing
tournament at the Conference Centre
Citywest.
Mr. Hickey in his opening address
thanked all the participants for having
traveled from all parts of the world to
compete. He particularly drew
attention to our four Irish Fighters,
Robbie Mc Menamy, Jason Doyle, Jay
Daniels and Mark Mc Dermott who
faught at the event before continuing
their preparation for the World
Combat Games in Beijing, China this
coming August. He went on to
congratulate the four on achieving
their ranking within the top four in the
world.

Roy Baker, President of AKAI, thanked
Mr. Hickey for officially opening this
year’s Irish Open. He went on to
acknowledge the tremendous
accomplishment it is to have four
fighters qualify for the World Combat
Games and it is an indication of the
health of the sport in Ireland and the
quality of athletes being produced by
this small island.
